Specialist General Practitioners have formal training in minor procedures which include skin cancer removal and benign lesion removal, such as skin tags, warts seborrheic keratosis and sebaceous cysts. During your consultation, it will be determined whether or not you require an excision of a lesion. Any recommended procedures or further interventions will be determined based on clinical indication and, where appropriate, scheduled subsequent to the initial appointment.
Some other lesions identified by the doctor can and will be referred as appropriate to dermal therapists for laser removal.

What to expect from your skin cancer removal

complies with clinical and infection control requirements. A qualified clinical assistant will be present to support the procedure and provide patient care.
Prior to the procedure, the treatment area will be clinically assessed and prepared using sterile technique.
Where clinically indicated, tissue samples will be sent for histopathological examination. Results will be reviewed by the treating practitioner and discussed with you, including any recommended follow-up or further management.
After the procedure, a dressing will be applied and post operative care instructions will be explained and provided. This includes wound care advice and arrangements for review or suture removal if required. Risks, benefits, and alternatives are discussed as part of the informed consent process.

Duration of the procedure is dependent on the complexity of the procedure required, but usually takes approximately 15 to 45 minutes.
