Dermal Filler

Dermal fillers are a type of cosmetic injectable used to add volume, smooth wrinkles, and rejuvenate the appearance of the skin. They can also be used to shape, enhance and re-volumise various areas of the face such as the lips, cheeks and chin.
What to expect

Before any injectable appointment, patients must present to one of the doctors at Advantage Skin Clinic for an initial consultation and script. An injectable script is valid for up to 6 months according to TGA guidelines. A doctor will reassess you for subsequent scripts.

Your dermal filler appointment will begin with a consultation with the registered nurse to discuss your desired goals, medical history and concerns. Your nurse will assess your facial features and tailor a treatment plan for you.

Receiving dermal filler usually takes less than 60 minutes. Results from dermal fillers last from 6-18 months, and it may take up to two weeks to see the full effect of the treatment.

There may be some temporary swelling and bruising post injection of dermal fillers, resulting in some downtime. However, our team will work with you to minimise this downtime, and it will generally subside within a few days.

The cost of dermal fillers will depend on the area treated and the amount of product required. A consultation with our team will allow us to provide a tailored quote that fits your unique needs.

What are dermal fillers used for?

Dermal fillers are used to smooth and plump superficial and deep lines, as well as shape, enhance, and re-volumise various areas of the face. Common areas of treatment include the lips, smile lines, cheeks, jaw, and fine lines.

What areas can be treated with dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers can be used to treat a variety of areas on the face, including the cheeks, under the eyes, lips, nasolabial folds (lines around the nose and mouth), marionette lines (lines from the corners of the mouth to the chin), and chin.

Are there any side effects?

As with any medical treatment, there is a risk of side effects. Common side effects of dermal filler treatment include swelling, bruising, and redness at the injection site. These are usually mild and resolve within a few days.

What is the pre and post-treatment care?

24 hours before and after treatment it is advisable to avoid aspirin, alcohol and anti-inflammatory medication. You can apply a cool compress to the treatment area for 10 minutes every half an hour after your treatment.

  • Avoid strenuous exercise for 24-48 hours after treatment
  • Avoid pressure on the treated areas for the first few nights and try to sleep on your back if possible
  • Do not expose the area to intense heat such as saunas for 14 days post-treatment
  • Do not use AHA, retinoids, vitamin C therapy or oil-based makeup for the first 24 hours post-treatment.
What should I watch for?
